Defrosting Instructions

Instructions to Defrost Octopus, Squid, and Cuttlefish After Packaging

Here are the recommended methods for defrosting octopus, squid, and cuttlefish while maintaining their texture and freshness:

1. Ice Bath Method (Preferred for Superfrozen Seafood)

Keep the product in its vacuum-sealed packaging.
Prepare an ice bath using a 40/60 ice-to-water ratio.
Submerge completely and let it thaw for 30 minutes to 1 hour, depending on thickness.
Once thawed, remove from packaging, pat dry, and use within 24 hours if refrigerated.

2. Refrigerator Method (Slow Thawing)

Remove the product from its vacuum packaging to prevent bacterial growth.
Wrap it in absorbent paper towels to collect moisture.
Place it on a plate in the refrigerator set below 38°F.
Change the paper towels every 24 hours. This process may take 2–3 days for complete thawing.

3. Saltwater Method (For Superfrozen Blocks)

Prepare a 5% saltwater solution (e.g., 100g salt in 2 liters of water).
Submerge the seafood block for 15 minutes.
Pat dry and refrigerate for 2–3 hours before use.

Pro Tips

  • Do not use warm water or microwaves to thaw, as these can ruin texture and flavor.
  • Always consume defrosted products promptly to ensure optimal quality and safety.
